Plot

Anyanwu meets Doro and the two struggle to coexist in the era of slavery, as they move from Africa to the New World and both become involved in projects to breed super-humans.

An interesting, but not necessarily good introduction to the Patternist series that was clearly written as background material to the other novels in the series.
