Hulme Poems
- Imagism in its brevity and focus, but wistful and cute
- “Beauty is the marking time, the stationary vibration, the feigned ecstasy of an arrested impulse unable to reach its natural end.” (Epigraph to “Mana Aboda”)
- What would this natural end be?
- People in distress
- Obsessed w/the sky
- ”...loveliness that is her own eunuch.”
- In “Conversion”
- Seems like speaker died b/c saw beauty: “like any peeping Turk” killed and body sent down river
- Thus, beauty is an end, time stopping.
