Andrew's Wiki
Ex Posure
Content
- Describes a night moving into morning at the front
- Nothing happens except for death
- The war itself seems very far away
- War is bad not only in the crises, but also in the boredom, the slow death, the waiting, the sleeping
Style
- Frequent use of ellipses = murky atmosphere
- Makes the reader feel sleepy too
- Last line of each stanza repeats
- “But nothing happens” is the refrain
- Interrupted a few times times: “What are we doing here?” “Is it that we are dying” “For love of God seems dying.” “We turn back to our dying.
- Shows us that death is happening, despite it superficially looking like nothing is happening. They are ignoring death.
